The Delta State Governor, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa has today, 23rd November 2020 commended the Nigerian Army for identifying the vital role of social media in deepening the Nigerian Army’s civil – military cooperation
This commendation was handed down by His Excellency, during the 12th Edition of the Social Media Influencers Seminar held at Elomaz Hotel In Asaba, Delta State Nigeria.
The Governor, who was ably represented by the State Director – General of Orientation Bureau, Barr. Eugene Azuka Uzum, noted that the cooperation between the Nigerian Army and civil society groups would bridge the gap between the institution and the civil populace with a view of curbing the menace of fake news syndrome.
The DG while speaking also noted that Nigerian Army under the leadership of General Turkur Buratai has no doubt recognized the need for a holistic approach towards restoring peace and security.
The Orientation Boss went further to note that the mindset of the people could either be substance or challenges of the Government just he appreciated the sensitisation and enlightenment seminar of the exotic rules of social media, a sub session of the Nigerian Army Non-Kinetic line of operations.
Uzum who acknowledged that the social media has become a popular medium of communication to both individual and group levels noting that through social media, people share information more readily develope response capacities, promote engagement and collaboration just he notes that gauging narratives in communication was critical to wining the battle against insurgents and other criminal elements.
Also speaking during the Seminar was the Bigedier General EA Aladeniyi Who noted that media seminar was conceptualized in the last quarter of 2018 and was necessitated by the need to correct the perception of the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army, it’s achievements as well as its challenges.
